Subject: My account of the journey to Canterbury

Dear King,

I am writing this email to update you on the pilgrimage to Canterbury. First, I would like to say it was an honor to be chosen as the knight to accompany the other pilgrims on this journey. I am aware that the knight is described as “a most distinguished man, who from the day on which he first began, to ride abroad had followed chivalry, truth, honour, generousness and courtesy.” I am pleased that you felt that I fit that description. I gained a lot of knowledge and experience on this journey, and I would like to be considered on future pilgrimages.

I am a wise, modest, and distinguished man. I have “done nobly in his sovereign’s war, and ridden into battle, no man more, as well in Christian as in heathen places, and ever honoured for my noble graces.”

I have been to many places such as Prussia, Lithuania, Russia, Granada, North Africa, as well as others along the Mediterranean Coast. I own a fine horse and I don’t require much when it comes to clothing. I often wear a tunic stained and dark where the armor has left its mark. I was determined to go on this pilgrimage therefore, I didn’t return home after battle.

I plan to polish my fighting skills so I am better prepared for my next battle. If another pilgrimage comes up, please feel free to contact me. I won’t let you down. It will be an honor and a privilege to serve you on another journey.

Sincerely,

The Knight

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to let you know that I have not yet reached Canterbury. Along the way I’ve met many interesting people and won many wrestling matches between my new friends and I. I’m unsure of how long it will take me to complete this voyage and am asking for a leave of absence until I return.

I should be considered for this request because this voyage will teach me many things and it will benefit our company. On the journey I am hoping to learn how to make new different varieties of bread and grain which would be beneficial to our community. I am hoping that I can learn some new stories so I can stop telling you guys the same stories that you`re used to hearing from me. I feel like this journey would be best for me to go on this voyage as recently I have been tempted to take more grain than my share which will only land me in trouble so time away would be beneficial to everyone.

In conclusion, I should be allowed to partake in this leave of absence, it will be beneficial to the community because I will learn new skills and they will be beneficial to everyone around me especially to the company.

Sincerely,

Robyn (the miller)
